Apple does not sponsor this tournament
The first World Tournament is a fact! The registration will open on September 7th, and it will last for about a month. Then, in October, the Tournament starts, and it will end in mid November. This gives us enough time to determine the winner of the Tournament, and award him / her with the prize. We want the winner to receive the prize before Christmas.
The prize of this World Tournament is either an iPhone 6 or a Nexus 6 device. The winner will pick the color of this device, and we will ship to his / her address.
As we wrote above the registration will open on September 7th, and anyone can participate. A user can register more than once, but we do advice against this. A user can register from any device that has the iTavli application installed. A device can be used only once to register a user, and thus, if you want to register more than once, you need to have more than one devices with the iTavli application installed. Therefore, you participate in the Tournament from the device that you used to register yourself, and it is not possible to transfer this registration to a new device.
When you register, you enter a name, an email address, and the game(s) that you wish to play in the Tournament. You may choose any name you wish, but keep in mind that that name will appear in the Tournament statistics. We will not ask you to verify your email address, but if you give us a wrong email address, we won't be able to contact you. Now, we will only contact you if you are the winner of the Tournament, and we will delete all email addresses from our server, once the Tournament is over. You may choose to play all games or only the one that you are good at. But, we will compute your final score based only on the game(s) that you choose to play in the Tournament.
We wanted to make this Tournament as simple as possible, and thus we have only 1 rule, and 1 restriction
You must play at least two games every single day, until the end of the Tournament. If you fail to meet this rule, you can stil participate in the Tournament, but you won't be eligible for the prize. Also, your name will be removed from the Tournament statistics.
You can not play more than 5 games with the same player. If you fail to meet this restriction, you can stil participate in the Tournament, but you won't be eligible for the prize. Also, your name will be removed from the Tournament statistics.
A day starts at 00:00:00 and ends at 23:59:59, Greece time. The Greece timezone is EEST. You may find at Timezones some useful information about the different timezones. Because many players are located in different timezones that the Greece one, we will start enforcing the above conditions after the first week of the Tournament.
We will compute the score of each player by adding all the points earned from the games that (s)he won and dividing that sum by the total games that a player has played until then. One may assume that the highest score that a player can have is 1, but keep in mind that a double game counts for two points, and not one. Thus, the highest score is 2.
If you want to improve your score you can play as many games as you like each day. On the other hand, if you wish to retain your high score you can play only the minimum number of games each day, i.e., 2 games.
We will update the score at midnight, Greece time.
Obviously, the winner of the Tournament is the player with the highest score. Now, if more than one players have the same score, we will take under consideration the type of game(s) that this player has won and lost. Thus, we consider a better player someone who won a double game or has lost single game(s). We will consider this when we compute the score for each player, and although two players may have the same score, one of them will rank better than the other.
In the case were after we apply the above rule we find that two or more players have the same score, then we will act as follows:
If we find that only two or three players have the same score, then those pleyers will compete against each other, until we have a winner. If we have more than three players but less than twenty with the same score, then our Facebook friends will vote for the winner. Finally, if we have more than twenty players with the same score, then we continue the Tournament for a couple of days until we have a winner.
Yes you can, but that game will not contribute to your score. More importantly, you need to play a new game so that you won't violate the rule of the minimum two games per day.
You start a game by tapping on the list of online players and selecting the game that you wish to play. You may play against someone who participates in the Tournament or not. If the player participates in the Tournament, you will see the "Trophy" icon next to his/her name, and you will also see the games that that player has chosen to play in the Tournament.
Enjoy the game!
